In a plot basis the romantic love story of Russian traveller Nikolay Rezanova and the daughter of the governor of San Francisco Maria Konchity Arguelo de la Concepcion has laid down. Under the version of authors, in 1806 forty two-year count Rezanov has undertaken sea expedition from Alaska to coast of California by the ships "Juno" and "Perhaps" for the purpose of reception of provisions for starving Russian colonies in America. Having arrived to California, he has met the fine, young, sixteen-year daughter of the local governor in the Spanish colony of San Francisco, but their promptly developing novel has been interrupted by necessity of urgent departure of the count for Russia for reception of the permission to marriage with the Catholic. On the way back Rezanov has died of cold near Krasnoyarsk. Konchitа waited favourite thirty five years until has received authentic data on his death then has vowed silence and has left in a monastery. This loftily-tragic story love has inspired Andrey Voznesensky on poem creation "Perhaps" which later has been processed by the author in the opera libretto.
