At one stage known as Canadas poet laureate of existential despair, Cohen published a number of poetry books and the classic novel Beautiful Losers during the 1960s and early 1970s. The fact that Cohen does more real singing on this album can be seen as both a blessing and a curse – while his voice sounds more strained, the songs are delivered with more passion than usual.

In 2007, Sony/BMG began reissuing Leonard Cohen's back catalog in remastered and expanded editions, including an upgraded version of Songs of Love and Hate. The disc includes a bonus track, an alternate version of "Dress Rehearsal Rag" that had been recorded during the sessions for 1969's Songs From A Room. It's dominated by the same uncertain vocal delivery and curious arrangements that flawed that album, though it certainly makes for an interesting comparison to the later take on Songs of Love and Hate.

This is an ambiental/classical album containing soothing music and sounds of the Croatian mountain Velebit.Piano is played by Matej Mestrovic who also composed the music and the original sounds were recorded by Croatian alpinist Stipe Bozic.The CD was originally released with the Croatian edition of National Geographic Magazine as a gift to readers.Sounds of Velebit is a beautiful album and many nature sounds like birds singing,bees buzzing,or even sounds of thunderstorm and rain,will make you feel as if you are really there.
