Thomas Muentzer (1956)

Der Film schildert das Schicksal des jungen Pfarrers, dem geistigen Führer der Bauernerhebung und Ideologen der Reformation in Deutschland des 16.Jahrhunderts. 1523 kommt Thomas Müntzer mit seiner Frau Ottilie ins thüringische Allstedt, um eine Pfarrstelle zu übernehmen. Mutig tritt er für die Lehre Luthers ein, aber während dieser sich von den Volksmassen abwendet, wird Müntzer zu deren Sprecher. In Süddeutschland und in verschiedenen Orten Thüringens setzt er sich für die Rechte der Armen ein, bei Frankenhausen führt er die Bauern in ihre letzte Schlacht.

The film portrays the fate of the young priest, the spiritual leader of the peasant revolt and the ideologues of the 16th century Reformation in Germany. 1523 will take on Thomas Müntzer with his wife Ottilie to a pastorate in Allstedt (Thuringia). He boldly advocated the doctrine of Luther, but during that turns away from the masses, Munzer will be their speaker.
