Semiautobiographical tale of director/star/writer and former dancer Potter, as Sally, who finds love and the meaning of life in the tango. While penning a noncommercial script called "Rage" about a paraplegic designer who stalks leggy models, Sally meets a tango master dancer without a partner.
He starts teaching her to dance then she returns to London to work on some "projects". Later, she visits Buenos Aires and learns more from Pablo's friends. Sally & Pablo meet again but this time their relationship changes, she realises they want different things from each other. Sally grooms Pablo to star in her upcoming film called The Tango Lesson. The film that we happen to be watching, however, is concerned largely with the delicious conflict between the politics of tango -the need for one partner, typically the woman, to yield to the other- and the expectations of the filmmaker to do things on her own terms. Can Potter simultaneously surrender and control for the duration of this circular project? The question is made more complicated by Veron's desire to be in one of Potter's films -in other words, to follow her lead.
