A documentary puts a bomb under the traditionally lacklustre British attitude to sex education in schools by getting pupils to talk about the impact of pornography.
Goedele Liekens, a United Nation's goodwill ambassador for sexual health, spent two weeks giving a comprehensive sex education course to Year 11 pupils at Hollins Technology College in Accrington for a documentary called Sex in Class.
Thirteen teenagers volunteered to take part in the class in which boys were asked to make art inspired by female genitalia, and to shave their own pubic areas, and girls were asked to examine themselves with a hand-held mirror.
The group also wrote the script for a porn film, and discussed their own use of pornography. One male pupil revealed that he first saw a porn film at age 10, and that he now looked at similar content two or three times a day.
Headteacher Steve Campbell, who invited Liekens to the school, said the course was essential to correct attitudes which had been skewed by watching too much pornography.
