Gloria (Carmen Maura) es un ama de casa malcasada adicta a las anfetaminas y que sufre síndrome de abstinencia. En su desesperación mata a su marido. Los acontecimientos se suceden como una pesadilla. Verónica Forqué y Chus Lampreave completan el reparto en un clima de neorrealismo.

Gloria est une maîtresse de maison qui n'a pas une minute à elle. Pour équilibrer son maigre budget, elle fait des ménages et quand elle rentre, elle doit s'occuper de toute la famille : mari, enfants, belle-mère et même des voisins. Pour réussir cette survie, Gloria prend des amphétamines. Aussi, quand la pharmacienne lui refuse sa dose, Gloria va exploser… Troisième long mètrage d'un jeune et controversé cinéaste espagnol, chef de file de la "Movida", bohême espagnole. Un film noir acide ou "l'humour étouffe sous la cruauté de ce qui s'y passe".

The film is a slice of a housewife's life in 80's Madrid. Gloria (Carmen Maura) lives in a small and cheap apartment with husband and two children: the declared homosexual Miguel (12), who she sells to the dentist and the cocaine pusher Toni (14). Her husband, Antonio, longs for a German woman he chauffeured around Germany before he married Gloria. Gloria's mother-in-law, a frugal and unhappy woman who hides her magdalena cakes and desperately wants to move back to the country, is another addition to the poor woman's struggle. Crystal, a prostitute who lives next door, is Gloria's best friend and provides one of the few rays of sunshine in Gloria's life.
