Formulaic Norman Wisdom comedy vehicle featuring his usual brand of slapstick, but there’s also a tendency to over-sentimentalise the plot narrative. Gormless butcher's assistant Norman Pitkin (Norman Wisdom) causes a commotion in a hospital where his boss, Mr. Grimsdale (Edward Chapman), is undergoing surgery to have a swallowed watch removed. Norman is banned from entering the hospital again but vows to come back and visit a depressed orphan, Lindy (Lucy Appleby), he met whilst hiding under a bed. Despite being barred by the hospital governor, Sir Hector (Jerry Desmonde), Norman must somehow get in. He causes chaos with his zany attempts to gain access, which include joining the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade, sitting in a freezer to contract pneumonia, and throwing himself in-front of an oncoming lorry. Knowing Lindy will be watching a charity ball television broadcast; Norman determines to get in front of the cameras.
