Michael Klyaynhaus - classical type of "a neighbor across the street" ,he’s on vacation from the job. He tries to write a short story and submit it to the competition. His wife, Tamar is a doctor who specializes in hospital. This is a five-year- couple. They live with Michael's mother, recently widowed. The world of Michael distorted in the day, when Tamar gets into the car with the warm pizza for the child and the driver of a big black car is not waiting for and breaking a car door. From this moment begins the disassembly. This is pathetic confusion leads Michael into conflict with powerful forces and influence - a world of crime, police, state bureaucracy, violence, and atheists. This puts them in a whirlwind of passions, feelings and actions, in a desperate attempt to save what little is left of family life and the right to live in a "standard" conditions, no turning back …

מיכאל קליינהאוס הדמות הקלאסית של "השכן ממול" נמצא בחופשה ממקום עבודתו. בחופשה הוא מנסה לכתוב סיפור קצר ולהגיש לתחרות. אשתו תמר היא רופאה מתמחה בבית חולים, לזוג בן בגיל חמש וברקע אימו של מיכאל שהתאלמנה לאחרונה. עולמו של מיכאל משתבש ביום בו נהג של מכונית שחורה וגדולה מסרב להמתין ולו לרגע, שתמר תיכנס למכונית עם הפיצה החמה עבור הילד, והוא תולש את דלת המכונית. מכאן מתחיל מסעו של מיכאל לקבלת פיצוי ולהחזיר לעצמו את כבודו שנרמס ואת רכושו שנפגע. ההסתבכות הקטנה והאומללה הזאת מובילה את מיכאל להתנגשות עם כוחות רבי עוצמה והשפעה כמו עולם הפשע, המשטרה, הבירוקרטיה הממשלתית ועם חברה "אלימה, סרקסטית וחסרת-אלוהים". כל אלה סוחפים אותו לתוך מערבולת של יצרים, רגשות ומעשים, ולניסיון נואש להציל את המעט שעוד נותר מחיי המשפחה ומהזכות לחיות בחברה "נורמטיבית" עד לצעד האחרון שאחריו אין כבר דרך חזרה

Это жалкая запутанность приводит Майкла к конфликту с могущественными силами и влиянием - мир преступности, полиции, государственной бюрократии, насилия и безбожников.
