The Huadu Chronicles: Blade of the Rose (2004)

Twins Effect II is about a war between males and females. Nothing to do with vampires so why is it called a sequel? A strong cast of pretty boys and cute girls, this movie has a flawed storyline and badly done CG effects. Considering it is a 2004 movie, the special effects are unacceptable. Even Stormraiders and A Man Called Hero look better than this movie.



This tale is set in Huadu, an ancient land ruled by a cruel empress (Qu Ying), a place where men are subservient to women. The empress' reign is disturbed by a prophecy saying a boy will rise to become king, and restore the male regime once he finds the legendary sword Excalibur. Charcoal Head (Jaycee Chan), a humble boy, is born to be the emperor. He and his adopted brother, Blockhead (Wilson Chen), perform in a traveling show run by their adopted father, Master Blackwood (Tony Leung Ka-Fai). Thanks to their other adoptive brother, Peachy (Edison Chen), the pair receive a stone with a map engraved on it. They set out on a quest for the treasure that the map is supposed to reveal. Two lovely yet lethal female warriors, Blue Bird (Gillian Chung) who works for the empress and is on the quest of finding out which one of the boys is the future king and 13 Young Master (Charlene Choi) who's dreaming of marrying the king and becoming queen, join the boys on their journey. The youngsters encounter various challenges before they meet the general Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Donnie Yen), a master swordsman who seeks to overthrow the empire.
