Gilda è una procace ballerina che, abbandonata dall'amante, giura di vendicarsi e per questo si fa sposare dal ricco proprietario di una elegante bisca di Buenos Aires. Però il suo ex amante diviene l'ispettore della bisca e ben presto uomo di fiducia e amico del proprietario. Intanto Gilda fa inutilmente ogni sforzo per risvegliare nell'ex amante l'antica passione e farlo mancare ai suoi doveri. Venuto a conflitto per ragioni di interesse con due tedeschi, il proprietario della bisca ne uccide uno e per sottrarsi alle conseguenze inizia una precipitosa fuga, durante la quale scompare. Lo si crede morto e i due superstiti, benché separati da rancori insuperabili, si sposano per motivi di interesse. Ma il proprietario della bisca riappare improvvisamente ed è sul punto di ucciderli, quando un inserviente, fedele a Gilda, li salva, uccidendo lui. I due hanno compreso finalmente di fronte al pericolo comune, che la passione che li unisce è più forte di ogni altro sentimento.

Synopsis
Just arrived in Argentina, small-time crooked gambler Johnny Farrell is saved from a gunman by sinister Ballin Mundson, who later makes Johnny his right-hand man. But their friendship based on mutual lack of scruples is strained when Mundson returns from a trip with a wife: the supremely desirable Gilda, whom Johnny once knew and learned to hate. The relationship of Johnny and Gilda, a battlefield of warring emotions, becomes even more bizarre after Mundson disappears…
