In seguito ad un annuncio di lavoro su un giornale, duecento ragazze si presentano ad un indirizzo in via Savoia per ottenere un posto di lavoro di dattilografa presso lo studio di un ragioniere. In un'Italia esasperata dalla disoccupazione in genere, ma ancor più da una impossibilità per le donne di trovare lavoro, si presentano per il colloquio le più disparate giovani: nobili decadute, prostitute che cercano di cambiar vita, mogli con il marito disoccupato, figlie di benestanti cui la pensione non basta per sopravvivere.

Accalcatesi sulle rampe delle scale del piccolo palazzo, si scambiano impressioni e accennano alle loro vite fatte di miseria ed espedienti per vivere. Un furibondo litigio per la priorità in fila scatena le ragazze, la cui prepotenza per passare avanti trasforma l'attesa in tragedia: la ringhiera della scala cede, distruggendo ad uno ad uno i gradini, facendo precipitare le donne, alcune delle quali rimangono seriamente ferite, mentre una di esse, Anna Maria Baraldi, muore in seguito alle ferite riportate.

Roma ore 11 è un film del 1952 diretto da Giuseppe De Santis. Si basa sull'inchiesta condotta da Elio Petri, che fu aiuto regista nel film, in seguito ad un fatto di cronaca avvenuto a Roma nel 1951. Il film è stato distribuito il 27 febbraio 1952. La sceneggiatura si avvale dell'aiuto di Cesare Zavattini, Basilio Franchina, Rodolfo Sonego e Gianni Puccini.

Al film hanno partecipato anche tre ragazze coinvolte nella tragedia. Questo film è uno dei migliori esempi del Neorealismo italiano. Il regista Augusto Genina fece un film, intitolato Tre storie proibite, basato sullo stesso tragico incidente. La colonna sonora comprende, all'interno delle scene, dei pezzi eseguiti al Teremin.

В основу сюжета положен реальный факт: некий римский адвокат дал в газете объявление о том, что требуется опытная машинистка. По объявлению явилось столько женщин, что лестница старого дома рухнула под их тяжестью. Режиссёр воспользовался драматическими и изобразительными эффектами, которые содержал этот сюжет. Сосредоточивая внимание то на одной, то на другой женщине, он превратил их в героинь отдельных новелл и рассказал историю жизни каждой из них. Огромное впечатление остаётся от самой ката строфы (снятой, конечно, на студии), когда в клубах пыли, под истошные крики рушится лестница, и среди искорёженных конструкций зритель видит безжизненные или корчащиеся от боли тела.

English Storyline
Rome 11 o'clock or Roma ore 11 is a 1952 Italian drama film directed by Giuseppe De Santis and one of the best examples of Neorealist filmmaking. Augusto Genina made the film named Tre storie proibite, based on the same tragic accident at Savoia Street that Rome ore 11 is about. The film is based on a real story, an accident that happened in Rome, when a staircase fell down because of the weight of hundreds of women waiting for a job interview as a secretary.

In response to a job ad in a newspaper, two hundred girls present themselves to an address in Via Savoia to get a job of typist in the office of an accountant. In an Italy exasperated by general unemployment, but even more by the impossibility for women to get a job, the girls that want to have the interview are from the most diverse young women: fallen nobles and prostitutes seeking to change their lives, wives with unemployed husbands, affluent daughters where the pension is not enough to survive.
