Il Signore degli Anelli, in originale The Lord of the Rings, è una trilogia fantasy del regista neozelandese Peter Jackson, basata sull'omonimo romanzo scritto da John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. Insieme a Ben-Hur e Titanic, Il Ritorno del Re è il film premiato con il maggior numero di premi Oscar, 11, e complessivamente la serie cinematografica è la più vittoriosa della storia: 17 statuette vinte e ben 30 nomination agli Oscar. Questa serie di film è celebre fra l'altro per l'estremo realismo degli effetti speciali, realizzati dalla società neozelandese Weta, fondata dallo stesso Peter Jackson e da Richard Taylor.

The Lord of the Rings is a film series consisting of three epic fantasy adventure films directed by Peter Jackson. They are based on the novel The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. The films are subtitled The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003). They were distributed by New Line Cinema.

Considered to be one of the biggest and most ambitious film projects ever undertaken, with an overall budget of $280 million, the entire project took eight years, with the filming for all three films done simultaneously and entirely in New Zealand, Jackson's native country. Each film in the series also had special extended editions released on DVD a year after their respective theatrical releases. While the films follow the book's general storyline, they do omit some of the novel's plot elements and include some additions to and deviations from the source material.

An ancient Ring thought lost for centuries has been found, and through a strange twist in fate has been given to a small Hobbit named Frodo. When Gandalf discovers the Ring is in fact the One Ring of the Dark Lord Sauron, Frodo must make an epic quest to the Cracks of Doom in order to destroy it! However he does not go alone. He is joined by Gandalf, Legolas the elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Aragorn, Boromir and his three Hobbit friends Merry, Pippin and Samwise. Through mountains, snow, darkness, forests, rivers and plains, facing evil and danger at every corner the Fellowship of the Ring must go. Their quest to destroy the One Ring is the only hope for the end of the Dark Lords reign!

Le forze di Sauron hanno attaccato la capitale di Gondor, Minas Tirith, nel suo assedio finale contro l'umanità.
