The Gringo (called the Driver) (Mel Gibson) is convicted and sent to a Mexican prison for stealing money from a crime boss and breaking across the Mexican border. As he learns his way through the town-like prison, he meets and befriends a 10 year old boy whose liver is sought after by Javi, an inmate "boss" who controls rackets and privileges within the prison, due to their rare blood type. It is up to the titular gringo to save the boy's life and the life of the boy's mother, and also break out of prison.

    IMDB Rating: 7.1/10

In his personal life Mel Gibson may still be sleeping it off in Hollywood's sin bin, but cinematically he returns here to what he does best, playing a funny, psychopathic, sharp-thinking outsider similar to Riggs the crazy cop he impersonated in the Lethal Weapon pictures. He is, however, very much on the wrong side of the law in How I Spent My Summer Vacation, a criminal loose cannon banged up in "El Pueblito".

This city-sized jail of some 6,000 inhabitants, including the families of the prisoners and various hangers-on, was built outside Tijuana as an experiment in humane imprisonment and was closed down in 2002 after becoming a version of hell. The dazzling re-creation of this prison and the way Gibson's man-without-a-name manipulates it makes this variant on the spaghetti western appealing.

The near incomprehensible plot involving his dealing with crooked cops and businessman on both sides of the Rio Grande is of little interest except as an excuse for fights, chases and the anti-hero's redemption. Most of the cast is Mexican, but there are walk-on roles for a snarling Peter Stormare and Bob Gunton, the latter no doubt chosen to recall his appearance as prison warden in The Shawshank Redemption.

    Recovery Volumes (.rev)

Recovery volumes or .rev files are special files which can be created by WinRAR/RAR and allow you to reconstruct missing and damaged files in a volume set. They can
only be used with multi-volume archives.

This feature may be useful for backups or, for example, when you post a multivolume archive to a newsgroup and some of the subscribers did not receive some files. Reposting recovery volumes instead of usual volumes may reduce the total number of files to repost.

Each recovery volume is able to reconstruct one missing RAR volume. For example, if you have 30 volumes and 3 recovery volumes, you are able to reconstruct any 3 missing volumes. If the number of .rev files is less than a number of missing volumes, reconstructing is impossible. The total number of usual and recovery volumes must not exceed 255 and the number of recovery volumes must be less than the number of RAR volumes.

WinRAR reconstructs missing and damaged volumes either when clicking on .rev file, or when using rc command or automatically, if it cannot locate the next volume and finds the required number of .rev files when unpacking.

You may use the "Recovery volumes" option in the Archive name and parameters dialog or a similar option also appears in the Protect archive command to create recovery volumes. In the command line mode you may do it with -rv switch or rv command.

Original copies of damaged volumes are renamed to *.bad before reconstruction. For example, volname.part03.rar will be renamed to volname.part03.rar.bad.
