La squadra che portò alla ribalta Ong Bak, rilanciando così a livello mondiale il nome del cinema tailandese, torna con un nuovo prodotto che punta interamente sull’adrenalina pura. Panna Ritthikray, dopo il successo come coreografo in Ong Bak, sale in cabina di regia mentre Prachya Pinkaew, regista nella precedente occasione, appare nel progetto come produttore.
Un vero e proprio esercito di terroristi invade un umile villaggio tailandese: se il generale capo della milizia, recentemente catturato dalla polizia, non verrà liberato tutti gli abitanti del villaggio verranno massacrati. In più i terroristi hanno un missile a testata nucleare puntato verso Bangkok e pronto ad essere lanciato come ostentazione di potenza di fuoco, comunque la questione vada a finire. Tra gli abitanti del villaggio si trova però un gruppo di campioni dello sport, in tour per il paese per promuovere la cultura sportiva. Quando la situazione si farà critica, gli atleti combatteranno i cattivi a suon di “pallonate”. Il concept è elementare e l’intreccio è inesistente, diciamolo subito. Il titolo è una consecutio di eventi più o meno collegati tra loro, creati appositamente per scatenare il finimondo ad ogni minimo appiglio, con attimi di patriottismo che alimenteranno la fornace della comicità involontaria. Secondo la filosofia del regista e della sua crew, basata sul rifiuto di qualsiasi effetto nelle scene d’azione, i momenti di lotta e di “stunting” sono assolutamente incredibili, da fare invidia nera all’allegra brigata di Jackass. Persone in carne ed ossa che si schiantano al suolo dal tetto di tir in corsa, cadute, urti e voli di qualsiasi tipo e da qualsiasi allucinante altezza. Per i fan dell’action non c’è il rischio di annoiarsi nemmeno in quanto a combattimenti corpo a corpo: oltre alle classiche arti marziali (tai boxe se ne vede poca), assurdi duelli a furia di pallonate, placaggi da rugby ed evoluzioni acrobatiche. A fugare i dubbi sulla veridicità del tutto le sequenze dal set a fine film, effige di come anche nel cinema si possa fare di necessità virtù. Un cult imperdibile per i fanatici dell’azione che non disdegnano due risate. Questo è quello che succede a dare carta bianca a Panna Ritthikray.
