Mitch e Dave sono cresciuti insieme e un tempo erano praticamente inseparabili, poi si sono un po' persi di vista. Dave adesso è sposato, padre di tre figli ed è un avvocato sempre molto impegnato. Mitch invece è rimasto un bambinone single, che non ha un lavoro fisso e non si è mai deciso a prendersi una responsabilità, nella vita. Per Mitch, a Dave non manca nulla: ha una bellissima moglie, i bambini lo adorano e lavora in uno studio prestigioso. Per Dave invece, vivere come Mitch - ovvero senza obblighi, conseguenze e stress - sarebbe un sogno. Dopo aver trascorso una nottata alcolica insieme, i due si risvegliano uno nel corpo dell'altro.

To Dave, living Mitch's stress-free life without obligation or consequence would be a dream come true. Following a drunken night out together, Mitch and Dave's worlds are turned upside down when they wake up in each other's bodies and proceed to freak out.
