Nel precedente capitolo, Brian e Mia Toretto (Brewster) erano riusciti a far evadere Dom, schizzando da un confine all'altro per eludere le forze dell'ordine. Ora, incastrati in un angolo a Rio, sono costretti a compiere un ultimo lavoro per riottenere la libertà. La loro missione? Costituire, nella cerchia dei loro amici e dei loro familiari, una squadra composta dai migliori uomini, unica nel suo genere, con il folle obiettivo di portare a termine una rapina del valore di cento milioni di dollari.
Dom e Brian sanno che la loro unica possibilità di successo passa attraverso l'annientamento del businessman corrotto (Joaquim De Almeida) che li vuole morti. Ma non è l'unico uomo sulla lista dei loro nemici. Il determinato agente federale Luke Hobbs (Johnson) non fallisce mai il suo obiettivo. Quando gli viene assegnato il compito di seguire le tracce di Dom e Brian, lui e il suo team d'assalto lanciano un'offensiva senza quartiere per catturarli. Ma mentre i suoi uomini setacciano l'intero Brasile, Hobbs capisce di non poter più fare nessuna distinzione tra buoni e cattivi.
