HellBoy - Director's Cut (2004)

In the final days of World War II, the Nazis attempt to use black magic to aid their dying cause. The Allies raid the camp where the ceremony is taking place, but not before a demon - Hellboy - has already been conjured. Joining the Allied forces, Hellboy eventually grows to adulthood, serving the cause of good rather than evil.
American troops arrive at a set of ruins and find a group of Nazi scientists led by Rasputin and his mistress, IIsa. They are protected by a mysterious figure in a gas mask named Kroenen, reportedly Hitler's top assasain.



Rasputin attaches himself to a mysterious device designed to open a portal to another dimension and awaken forces known as "The Seven Gods of Chaos." Just as the portal opens, the American troops launch grenades into the site, killing some scientists.

Kroenen attacks the Americans, killing several and wounding Professor Broom in the leg. Broom crawls over to a fallen soldier and picks up a grenade, hurling it just beneath the portal. Kroenen breaks off his attack and tries to remove the grenade, but cannot get to it in time. The grenade explodes, destroying the portal and Kroenan's right hand. Kroenen is then impaled by a fragment from the portal and is presumed dead. Rasputin is unexpectedly sucked into the portal, closing it.

Evocato dai nazisti direttamente dall'inferno, come arma di distruzione, Hellboy viene catturato dagli alleati e allevato dal Dr. Broom che lo trasforma in un eroe contro le forze del male.
Il film inizia in un'isoletta della Scozia, nel 1944, durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, dove i servizi segreti nazisti stanno svolgendo un rito magico chiamato "Ragnarok", condotto dal loro alleato russo, il malvagio stregone Rasputin (misteriosamente sopravvissuto al suo assassinio), che con vari macchinari misteriosi apre un portale verso l'aldilà. Un plotone di Alleati li attacca facendo fallire il procedimento alla fine di una violenta lotta: Rasputin viene risucchiato nel portale mentre si richiude e i suoi due tirapiedi, la bella Ilsa e l'uomo meccanico Kroenen, scompaiono misteriosamente. Il giovane professore Trevor Bruttenholm è convinto che durante tutto il tempo nel quale il portale è rimasto aperto potrebbe essere uscito qualcosa. Infatti ritrova un cucciolo di una creatura rossa simile a un diavolo, e decide di prendersene cura. Alla fine della missione, i soldati battezzano l'essere con il nome di Hellboy.

Nei nostri tempi, il giovane agente dell'FBI, John Myers, viene trasferito nel misterioso centro B.P.R.D, al cui interno molti vociferano che vengano nascoste creature paranormali e soggetti occulti. Infatti Myers incontra il prof. Broom presso l'uomo anfibio Abe Sapien, trovato in una cisterna d'acqua nel giorno in cui fu assassinato Abramo Lincoln, dal quale prende il nome. Il professore affida a Myers l'incarico di diventare il nuovo assistente personale di Hellboy, conosciuto al mondo solo come una nota creatura occulta del posto.
