The Simpsons, from Matt Groening, the cartoon is of greater longevity in the history of TV in the United States. It has a total of eighteen seasons and more than 385 episodes since its debut on 17 December 1989.

Initially emerged in 1987 as a series of short films produced by thirty seconds Groening for the television series "The Tracey Ullman Show." The reaction from viewers was so positive that "The Simpsons" has evolved into a program, premiered as a special Christmas half an hour on 17 December 1989 and then as a series regular on 14 January 1990. The series was praised by the critics and won numerous awards, including a Peabody Award, seventeen Emmy awards, twelve Annie Awards, three Genesis Awards, seven International Monitor Awards and four awards Environmental Media. On January 14, 2000 the series won a Star on the sidewalk of Fame in Hollywood. It is seen in more than one hundred countries.

Highly satiric, the serial criticizes the American society as a whole. Has as main targets the middle class and American mediocrity. The open channel FOX U.S., the main disseminator of the design is also why the jokes in the series.

The name of the city which is the design, Springfield, was chosen as a common name for U.S. cities - every state has its own - which ensures a more comprehensive critique of American way of life.
