    Als Max Simkin eines Tages entdeckt, dass die alte Leder-Nähmaschine in seinem Keller magische Kräfte besitzt, öffnet sich das Tor in eine neue Welt für den Schuhmacher. Er kann von nun an in die Identität jedes Kunden schlüpfen, dessen Schuhe er mit der alten Maschine repariert hat. Was für ein Abenteuer! Der stille, zurückgezogene Mann zieht erstmal los und probiert sich aus. Doch bald dämmert ihm, dass die neue magische Freiheit nicht ganz ungefährlich ist und auch ein gutes Stück Verantwortung bedeutet. Ist doch einer seiner Kunden Gangster Ludlow, dessen Schuhe Max wie angegossen passen.
