Sanduo receives his promotion, and still has no assignment. He tags along with former buddies, now in other companies. Their former Company commander, now a major, comes along to see Sanduo and Wu Liuyi. Liuyi performs rather badly cos of his injured back, overstressing himself in order to earn awards for his unit, and in memory of his old unit.
One day Sanduo gets jumped in the hallway. It is officer that he had captured in 7th Company's last exercise. He is probing Sanduo about his feelings as a safekeeper of an empty building. And he gives Sanduo hints that he may be tested soon, for a whole new assignment.
