This is a sort of adventure story for boys, involving a young man, an old man and two horses, Bunchuk and Buyan. They are bred in a stud somewhere in the plains between Belorussia and the Caucasus. The boy is training to be a jockey and to win the races with Buyan. Then the German invasion, partisan fighting and finally victory.
