In ‘Panda Adventure with Nigel Marven', the wildlife presenter heads to China to learn about giant pandas for his latest adventure. He visits the beautiful reserves the pandas inhabit, before heading into the wild to achieve his ambition of being the first presenter to be filmed with a giant panda in its native habitat. He is also astonished to witness a brown panda cub, one of only five known to science. Along his journey Nigel meets the other amazing creatures that live in the bamboo forest, including naughty macaques, golden snub-nosed monkeys and fluffy bamboo rats. He also feeds adorable red pandas, distant relatives of the giant panda.Part 1:
Nigel begins his journey by gaining exclusive access to the world's biggest panda breeding centre in Chengdu, where he learns astonishing details about the creatures' bamboo feeding and spies an adorable posse of panda cubs. He also catches sight of a small but beautiful red panda. Next, Nigel heads to the last panda stronghold in the wild - the vast, mountainous region of central China.
Part 2:
Nigel visits the heart of panda country in the Foping Reserve. With the help of expert trackers, he finds panda droppings and pawprints - but the animals themselves remain elusive. There are extraordinary encounters with a giant flying squirrel and a bizarre bamboo rat; then, after days of searching, Nigel finally spots movement in the thick bamboo. Is a giant panda close by? Later, Nigel returns to the UK to follow up some unexpected Chinese connections.
Part 3:
Nigel meets San Diego Zoo's newest panda cub, and learns how they have achieved their breeding success. Next, Nigel travels back to Sichuan Province to meet pandas rescued when their home was destroyed in the devastating 2008 earthquake. Along the way, he encounters golden takin - a type of goat-antelope - before heading to Chengdu to catch up with the panda cubs and meet the newest arrival.
Part 4:
Nigel climbs the holy mountain of Emei Shan and encounters naughty macaque monkeys. After a hard day of trekking, Nigel sets traps overnight to catch small mammals. He discovers in the morning that they have been sprung by a mole shrew and a niviventer. After more difficult hiking, the team's efforts are finally rewarded with a spectacular glimpse of a panda in the wild.
Part 5:
Nigel is determined to locate a wild panda den. Elsewhere, Nigel catches up with Chengdu's panda cubs.
