    Bär Paddington (gesprochen von Ben Whishaw / Elyas M'Barek) wuchs tief im peruanischen Dschungel bei Tante Lucy auf. Da diese früher einmal Gelegenheit hatte, einen englischen Abenteurer kennenzulernen, hat sie ihren Schützling auf ganz eigenwillige Weise aufgezogen: Sie lehrte ihn, Marmelade zu kochen, dem BBC World Service zu lauschen und schwärmte von einem aufregenden Leben in London. Als ein Erdbeben ihr Zuhause zerstört, sieht Lucy den richtigen Zeitpunkt gekommen, Paddington ein besseres Leben zu ermöglichen und schmuggelt ihn auf ein Schiff Richtung London. Davon ausgehend, dass alle Unbekannten Paddington während seiner Reise mit Höflichkeit begegnen, hängt sie ihm lediglich ein Schild mit der Aufschrift „Bitte kümmere dich um diesen Bären. Danke!“ um. In London wird Paddington zwar von einer netten Familie aufgenommen, doch der kleine Bär stellt schnell fest, dass ihn das Stadtleben womöglich überfordern wird – zumal auch noch eine bösartige Tierpräparatorin (Nicole Kidman) hinter ihm her ist.
