Berlin 1931: Ein psychopathischer Kindermörder ängstigt die Bevölkerung, narrt die Polizei und versetzt die Unterwelt in Aufregung: Ständige Razzien und Kontrollen behindern die Kriminellen bei ihrer Arbeit. Während Kommissar Lohmann dem Täter so auf die Spur kommen will, sendet die Bettler- und Ganovenorganisation ihre Spitzel nach dem Mörder aus, der schließlich von den Verbrechern gestellt wird, in letzter Minute der aufgebrachten Menge entkommen kann und in die Arme der Justiz flieht.
Fritz Langs Klassiker mit Peter Lorre als Kindermörder in Berlin, den die Polizei nicht fassen kann und der letztlich von der Unterwelt gestellt wird, ist ein exzellenter Thriller mit zahlreichen kritischen Untertönen.
