Luther - Series 1 - (2010)

Luther is a British psychological crime drama television series, starring Idris Elba as the titular character Detective Chief Inspector John Luther. The first series debuted on 4 May 2010, and ran for a total of six episodes.
The show follows the character of John Luther, a highly talented murder detective whose brilliant mind cannot always save him from the strength of his passions. Creator Neil Cross has said that Luther is influenced by both Sherlock Holmes and Columbo: The nature of Luther's intellect and its application to solving crimes is comparable to Holmes', whereas the show's use of the "inverted detective format" (wherein the audience is aware of the identity of the criminal but not of how they will be caught, as opposed to the conventional format of the audience discovering the criminal as the characters do) was inspired by Columbo. The series also appears to exist within the same fictional universe as a number of other crime dramas, due to mentions of a Detective Munch, who works within New York's Special Victims Unit.

Episode Guide
Episode 1: Luther, back from suspension, must solve a seemingly perfect double murder and work out how, and by whom, it was committed.
Episode 2: Luther must out manoeuvre a trained sniper on a mission to kill police officers. But as the body count rises, he has to uncover the killer's true motives.
Episode 3: Luther must catch a satanic occult killer accused of kidnap and murder. However, with a young mother's life at stake, Luther must use all his skills to build an airtight case.
Episode 4: When a serial killer goes on the rampage, Luther must put his personal life aside and delve inside the murderer's mind to discover what is driving him to kill so many girls, and why.
Episode 5: When a wealthy couple are taken hostage, Luther must try to avert a disastrous chain of events. However, what he doesn't know is that it will soon become very personal.
Episode 6: Luther, accused of murder, goes on the run with Alice to try and prove his innocence.
