Jeonju Digital Project 2008

The participated three directors this year are Idrissa Ouedraogo from Burkina Faso, built his fame on < Tilai >(1990), the African rising star director, Mahamat Saleh-Haroun from Chad whom was introduced at Jeonju International Film Festival with his noticeable film, < Daratt >, after winning Grand Special Jury Prize at Venice International Film Festival 2006, and Nacer Khemir from Tunisia continuing to build his own unique artistic world of cohesive subject matters as in his film < The Dove's Lost Necklace> which won Special Jury Prize at Locarno International Film Festival. < The Birthday > directed by Idrissa Ouedraogo tells a tragic story of a young lady named Awa. < Expectations > by Mahamat Saleh-Haroun is another poignant story of thousands of Africans who are in debts, trying to move to the North regardless many dangerous situations. < The Alphabet of My Mother > directed by Nacer Khemir brings out the story of a mother who dwells with past memories of her lost son.



Having left on a long journey across the desert, Moussa suddenly shows up in his village again one day. He clearly never reached his destination. Completely transformed by his ordeal, he is now apathetic, locked in silence, and indifferent to everything around him. But His creditors, who leant him the money for his journey, are growing impatient.



Awa is a beautiful and active young lady from a poor class and does not overcome it perfectly in her life. She has a boyfriend, Bouba, who is young and poor as well. Awa decides to marry Karim, a wealthy old man, but she can’t give up her love towards Bouba. When Karim discovers the affair between Awa and Bouba, he plans on taking his revenge on Awa’s Birthday.



An old woman is sitting with motionless and two eyes closed. Suddenly, a visitor shows up in the courtyard of the house while she is looking at the sunlight through a window. The turtle and opened door onto her memories and it makes her think of a memory about a rosary. The images of an unforgettable past remain in her mind with longing about her missing son.
