    A vigilante homeless man pulls into a new city and finds himself trapped in urban chaos, a city where crime rules and where the city's crime boss reigns. Seeing an urban landscape filled with armed robbers, corrupt cops, abused prostitutes and even a pedophile Santa, the Hobo goes about bringing justice to the city the best way he knows how - with a 20-gauge shotgun. Mayhem ensues when he tries to make things better for the future generation. Street justice will indeed prevail.

    A few years ago, there was a trailer attached to many Canadian prints of the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino epic Grindhouse that was amongst the many other fake trailers in between the two feature films. Since then only one has made a leap from fake trailer to big screen feature. This time around, first time feature director Jason Eisener takes his contest winning trailer and extends it into a feature with the simple self explanatory title, Hobo With A Shotgun

    A hobo (Rutger Hauer) walks the earth and lands into a town where violence is abound and people are getting killed and walked over. When the violence gears towards the hobo's way, his dreams of owning a lawnmower are shattered and the closest thing at his reach is a shotgun which allows him to escape from the violence and administer some punishment of the ones that have given punishment onto others.

    There are a few slow points to this film, but once this thing gets going, it truly is all bets are off and no rules apply and anything goes. I thought of some of the B pictures I viewed in the eighties and this surely would've fit in with an extra touch of the extreme for good measure. Rutger Hauer is perfect casting blending into the environment and letting loose when all is said and done. He has a great way of executing lines with the straightest of faces and garnering a laugh where needed.

    Whereas Machete, the other Grindhouse spinoff feature, populated its film with known faces, Hobo With a Shotgun is populated with lesser known faces and for this, it works better giving the film a bit of an unpredictability moreso than Machete.

    Hobo With A Shotgun goes in a variety of directions and its not afraid to go to the extreme and it delivers there so never underestimate the scruffy man with the winter hat and the pump action to match.
