Mayhem's new Swedish vocalist, Dead, takes the music into a gloomier terrain. But the attraction to the dark has a tragic and morbid outcome.
3. Hell opens
Darkthrone, Thorns and Burzum pull the music to their respective extremes. A record store in Oslo will be a meeting place for the environment, and things are starting to slip out.
4. Phoenix
Church fires and murders shake the environment and make Norwegian black metal infamous all over the world. But the music rises from the ruins.
