Season 1, Episode 1
In the first challenge the 8 hopefuls have to incorporate a 7 centimetre quiff into a hairstyle. The second challenge see’s the contestants tested on cutting human hair on mannequins. The final round before elimination sees the stylists asked to create a fairytale inspired hairstyle.
Season 1, Episode 2
Steve Jones hosts a competition in which young amateur hairstylists try to win the title of Britain’s best amateur hairdresser, judged by hairdresser to the Royals, Denise McAdam, and celebrity stylist Alain Pichon, who counts David Beckham as one of his clients. In the second installment, the seven remaining contestants are tasked with incorporating plaits and braids into a hairstyle, cutting and finishing a long layered haircut, and making hats out of hair. At the end of the show, another person will leave the competition for good.
Season 1, Episode 3
In the third round of the competition, the six remaining amateurs have to create a 12cm-high beehive, perfect a bowl cut and take part in a freestyle challenge with a period drama theme. At the end of the show, another of the challengers will have to leave the competition for good.
Season 1, Episode 4
It’s the quarter-final and the five remaining contestants fight it out. They are asked to create perfectly-polished chignons and then copy a haircut where every hair on the head is the same length. Finally, they let their imaginations run wild in a freestyle challenge with a sci-fi theme. After two days of styling someone will be asked to leave.
Season 1, Episode 5
It’s the semi-final and just four young stylists remain. The judges want them to take on gravity defying mohicans, their first men’s haircut – the short back and sides, and in the freestyle challenge the theme is brides. At the end of the show, one contestant will be going home.
Season 1, Episode 6
It’s the grand final of the competition and just three stylists remain, battling it out to be crowned the champion. Royal hairdresser Denise McAdam and celebrity stylist Alain Pichon put the finalists through their paces, creating vintage-inspired victory rolls and the most difficult cut of all, the highly-technical graduated bob. In the freestyle round, the competitors must create their most breathtaking hairstyles yet on the theme of Hollywood Glamour, and there’s a curveball in the shape of the models. At the end, one stylist will be awarded the coveted title of Britain’s Best Amateur Hairstylist.
