Moving in from Chicago, newcomer Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon) is in shock when he discovers the small Midwestern town he now calls home has made dancing and rock music illegal. As he struggles to fit in, Ren faces an uphill battle to change things. With the help of his new friend, Willard Hewitt (Christopher Penn), and defiant teen Ariel Moore (Lori Singer), he might loosen up this conservative town. But Ariel's influential father, Reverend Shaw Moore (John Lithgow), stands in the way.

    Footloose (1984) + Extra [w/Commentaries]

    Commentaries:
    1) Producer Craig Zadan and Writer Dean Pitchford open the track by discussing the picture's influence and legacy. They speak on the film's fortuitous timing, the history of the project, the process of and challenges in writing the script, Paramount's initial concerns over the music, the work of the cast, Herbert Ross' direction, the picture's themes, and plenty more. This is a smart, well-spoken, very informative, and highly engaging commentary. A must-listen.
    2) Actor Kevin Bacon delivers this set's second rock-solid commentary that's a strong supporting track and a fine addition to the supplements. He speaks on the clash between the cast and crew and the Provo community during the shoot, his performance in the film and working with the cast, the film's plot and themes, the place of music in film, and plenty more. There are some gaps in the track, a bit of dead air, but Bacon does a commendable job. Fans will want to give this one a try.

    Extra:
Let's Dance! Kevin Bacon on Footloose (12:20): Bacon looks back on his acting career, landing the role in Footloose, working with Director Herbert Ross, shooting in Utah, the discrepancy between his and his character's age, his costumes and haircut, creating the dance scenes, and his thoughts on the theme song. This is a very good supplement. Bacon shares a lot of good information in a short period of time. Fans are going to love this.
