This mini-series takes place between 1933 and 1939 in a small German town and basically tells the stories of three families (local Nazi leader, Social-democratic musician and Jewish merchant). The film shows very vivid how the political developments, home evenings and Hitler youth infiltration insidiously affect the lives of all. Values and attitudes change through seduction and reprisals. Children and youth are shown as perpetrators and victims at the same time.
Terrific TV series, and a distinguished part of the canon of film about European youth during the War. Attend to the numerous views of 'youth being young', whether scoring love or approval–even in '30s Germany. The scene of 'high-school graduation' couples jumping hand-in-hand through a bonfire is a heart stopper,..as though it had happened 10,000 years ago.
