The year after Warren Beatty debuted in William Inge's Splendor in the Grass, the rising star portrayed Berry-Berry in an Inge-scripted drama based on the novel by Midnight Cowboy's James Leo Herlihy. John Frankenheimer, like Beatty an alumnus of live TV, directs the skilled cast that includes Eva Marie Saint as a woman vulnerable to Berry-Berry's skin-deep charms and Brandon de Wilde as impressionable Clinton.
