• Vivaldi’s Dixit Dominus, his third known setting of the text, is a large scale piece for six soloists, choir and orchestra, divided in 11 parts – a total of 20 minutes of the finest Baroque sacred music. The manuscript was rediscovered only in 2005.
• The Dixit Dominus will be coupled with three shorter psalm written by Baldassarre Galuppi, also world-premiere recordings.

A series of quartets of 1778 lies concealed beneath this brilliant disguise as “sonatas” for two harpsichords, which only sheds a brighter light on the melodic verve of this Italian of genius become “Don Luis Boquerini”, the most Viennese composer at the Spanish court!

This recording is a collection of pieces taken from the two most famous 16th and 17th century treatises on dancing. Published in 1588 in the form of a dialogue between a dancing master and his pupil, the Orchésographie by Jehan Tabouret, alias Thoinot Arbeau, is probably the most widely used practical treatise in the history of the dance. Intended more for couples of dancers (the Orchésographie dealt with groups of dancers), The English Dancing Master, compiled in 1651 from English ancestral country dances, was equally successful and went through no fewer than 18 printings in twenty-fours years! These two collections contain the most celebrated dances in the traditional repertoire.

The interpretations of the ensemble La Magnifica Comunita, playing on original instruments, are gaining enormous critical acclaim, winning a prestigious “Diapason d’Or” and “Choc de la Monde de la Musique” in France, for their eloquent phrasing, and fresh and brilliant playing, full of vigour and tenderness.

• Giuseppe Tartini’s best-known work must be his sonata for violin ‘Devil’s trill’. Now meet the virtually unknown Tartini on these three CD’s. •Tartini wrote some 200 violin sonatas. But the opuses 2 and 6 recorded here certainly belong to the less-known part of this output. Especially the opus 2 has been quite neglected by present-day performers. Enrico Casazza performs all six of them in this set. The six sonatas opus 6 are stylistically looking ahead to a new sensibility and the classical sonata.

In other words, they are textbooks for performers and as such have served every professional wind and string player of our times as guides to historical performance practice. They are indispensible.
