    Genre: Pop | Label: Atlantic-Wea

from Amazon : "By the time of The Language of Life, Everything but the Girl had reached a point in their career where they could get accomplished jazz musicians Joe Sample, Michael Brecker, and Stan Getz to play on their album and not have it perceived as an affectation: the duo had already made five albums that showcased Ben Watt's ability to write a classic melody and Tracey Thorn's silky vocals."

    Cornelius - Point (2002)
    EAC Rip | FLAC, image+CUE, Log | 300MB | Covers
Genre: Electronica | Label: Matador Records

from Amazon: "Point is the long-awaited full-length follow-up to Fantasma, and it does not disappoint. Cornelius–a.k.a. Japanese pop auteur and clothing designer Keigo Oyamada–thrilled the world with his '97 international debut, a breezy blend of electronica that melded the thick, soupy guitar feedback of My Bloody Valentine to the gorgeous harmonies of the Beach Boys, and fed it all through a peculiarly kitschy Japanese bubblegum pop filter. On Point, the crystal-clear "Smoke" weaves a tangle of jerky new wave guitar over clip-clopping electronic beats and the raw clatter of percussion, while the heavenly "Tone Twilight Zone" elegantly demonstrates that even the most ornate, maximal production can be imbued with calm. Perhaps the album's greatest success is the way that it presents ambient cliché–the gurgle of running water, the breaking of waves, the chirruping of crickets–as just another form of instrumentation. The precise rhythms and harmonies of this enchanting, psychedelic journey into stereophonic sound confirm Oyamada's studio mastery. No one on earth is making music quite like this. –Louis Pattison"

Genre: Folk | Label: Vector Recordings

from Amazon : "This CD made it's way into my hands when a friend, an Irish singer, said if he could be anyone in the world, he would be Damien Rice. He put this album on and watched eagerly as I devoured it for the first time. Inevitable comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, Dave Matthews and Tom Waits will be made, but Rice is a genre unto himself."

It is a collection of covers of classic 1940's swing and jump blues songs originally performed by musicians such as Louis Jordan and Cab Calloway, the latter of whom's song "Jumpin' Jive" was the eponym for this album. The album, and associated single release, was credited to Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive. Jackson's foray through jump blues anticipated the so-called "retro-swing" revival (Squirrel Nut Zippers, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Brian Setzer Orchestra) by a full fifteen years.

Genre: indie | Label: Southern Records

this is my favorite album by one of my favorite bands. karate is the only group i know that has taken the energy of hardcore/punk and channeled it to almost acoustic-jazz-rock songs. Sometimes it makes you think you are listening to hardcore despite the fact that there is no distortion, the songs are usually very slow-paced, and geoff farina has a great voice and doesn't growl or scream..

After his earlier Italo-pop and his recent experiments with African-influenced music, Lorenzo Jovanotti release Capo Horn which. From the gentle start of "Per te" (for you) dedicated to his daughter, to more up beat numbers such as "Un raggio di Sole" (A ray of sunlight) the album really holds together with a wide range of influences, from jazz to funk to heavy rap. At one point he even inserts a short excerpt from the Sugarhill Gang's original "Rappers' Delight" (He did the whole song in his concert tour of Italy)...
