The film features Miles Davis biographer Ian Carr alongside other contributors, including Mile's fellow St. Louis trumpeter and first great mentor Clark Terry; record producers Bob Weinstock and George Avakian; Kind of Blue drummer Jimmy Cobb; singer/pianist Shirley Horn; Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter from the Miles Davis '60s quintet; and later collaborators Dave Holland, Jack Dejohnette, Joe Zawinul, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Dave Liebmann and Marcus Miller.
Finally, The Miles Davis Story showcases many of Davis's most influential and timeless recordings, among them: "So What," "Walkin'," "Miles Ahead," "All Blues," "Blue in Green," "Milestones," "In a Silent Way," "Bitches Brew," "Tutu," and "Time After Time."
