A good ten years after the first archival album was published in the mid-1970s, jazz rocker Light Year, who was active in California, was somewhat surprisingly released in autumn 2020 by a second collection with historical recordings of the formation. "Hypernauts of the Absolute Elsewhere" was released like "Reveal The Fantastic" by Green Tree Records from Berlin.
The material to be found on "Hypernauts of the Absolute Elsewhere" is probably the rest of the demo material that the band recorded at the time (or another part - who knows what else is there somewhere; a live cut maybe?). The sound is very good, so it can be assumed that the recordings were made in a recording studio under thoroughly professional conditions. There is a bit of noise, but otherwise the music, like the one on "Reveal The Fantastic", sounds excellent.
In terms of style, there is of course no difference to the music found on the other archive album. A jazz rock that is quite typical of the time, but definitely unique, is offered here, determined by Randy Sellgren's virtuoso tinkling electric guitar and Sharon Pucci's vocals. In addition, there is the expansive electric piano accompaniment and a few more key fillers, a lot of vibraphone and the dynamic rhythm section. Playing COS Mahavishnu Orchestra is still quite a fitting comparison, here it meets all kinds of complex and guitar-heavy fusion with expressive soprano singing, which, however, remains surprisingly bearable (so hardly lapses into screeching toenails). All in all, there is quite a smell of variety, and in the closing "3:30 Tomorrow" there is a successful drum solo to be heard before the album ends with a powerful jazz-rocking sound. Light Year certainly didn’t need to hide from the two bands mentioned above, not even from the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
