Live At The Forum '76 was recorded during the band's three-day performance at The Forum in Los Angeles in October 1976. The show took place when the band was finishing work on Hotel California, which was to be released in December of the same year. The recording of the concert captures some of the very first live performances of "Hotel California" and "New Kid In Town".
During the show, the band also performed hits from earlier albums: "Take It Easy" from the band's 1972 debut of the same name; "Already Gone" from the 1974 film On the Border; and the title track No. 1 from the 1975 album One of These Nights. The concert also includes a raucous rendition of "Funk #49", a song originally recorded by James Walsh's Gang.

The Forum concert is a snapshot of the band right before Hotel California became a critical and commercial phenomenon. After its release, the album topped the US charts for eight weeks, it included two No. 1 singles ("New Kid In Town" and "Hotel California") and two Grammy Awards. Today, Hotel California has received a 26x platinum certification from the RIAA and is the third best-selling album in U.S. history and one of the best-selling albums of all time.
