    “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts

    Both Brian Eno and David Byrne had, for a number of years, been interested in non- Western music styles, particularly those of sub-Saharan African of the Arabic cultural sphere; In the Talking Heads /Eno records, such influences function implicitly, but on the album 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts' they became explicit.

    Over Rhythmic and harmonic backing tracks, played by Eno, Byrne and eleven other musicians, Eno and Byrne superimposed taped voices from a variety of sources. 'It's almost collage music, like grafting a piece of one culture onto a piece of another onto a piece of another, and trying to make them work as a coherent musical idea, and also trying to make something you can dance to' mentioned Eno."

    The title of the album is inspired by Amos Tutuola's novel with the same title.

    “First album released on David's Samadhi Sound label
    An impromptu suite of songs for guitar, electronics and voice. An emotionally raw, minimal work, of immediacy and stark beauty with outstanding contributions from Derek Bailey and Christian Fennesz.
    David set aside a month to write and record the album while taking a break from the project that he and his
    brother, Steve Jansen, are currently working on. He has created an impromptu suite of songs for guitar, electronics and voice. The compositions were crafted from improvisational sessions captured live in the studio. Working almost entirely alone david has created an emotionally raw, minimal work, of immediacy and stark beauty.
    Although there are elements in his previous body of work that hint at the direction taken here the cd, entitled simply 'blemish', appears to cover new ground in style, content, intensity of emotion, and in the seemly open ended nature of the compositions themselves. Adding to the intensity and air of experimentation is the presence of Derek Bailey. Three of the pieces included on 'blemish' were written with, and feature,
    the legendary free-jazz guitarist. The final track of the CD features a haunting electronic arrangement by Christian Fennesz.

    The album was recorded in the month of February 03 and mixed in March 03.
    All aspects of the recording were handled by David himself.

The Johnsons, an ensemble featuring a string trio, piano, bass and drums, lay a foundation of lush yet minimal orchestral arrangements. Antony & the Johnsons is a reissue of the group's debut album, which was originally released in 1998 on the London-based label Durtro, which is run by David Tibet of Current 93. It
    was followed by the EP I Fell in Love with a Dead Boy EP, which includes a cover of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti's "Mysteries of Love."

    Having first presented his songs in after-hours cabarets at the Pyramid Club in NYC, Antony assembled the Johnsons and produced his first concerts at The Kitchen and Knitting Factory in NYC.The past few years have found Antony & the Johnsons making a name for themselves playing a series of concerts at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater and the Knitting Factory in New York City. In the past year, Antony and the Johnsons have also
    performed at The Bloomsbury theater in London with Current 93, at Central Park SummerStage with Bebel Gilberto, at the Nancy Jazz Festival in France with French composer Yann Tiersen, at Town Hall in NYC with Rufus Wainwright, at the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, at the Wexner Center in Columbus OH, at Royce Hall, UCLA for producer Hal Willner, and in Milan and Naples with Tramontano Arts.


    "I'm sure by now you've heard the hype surrounding this growing legend. He was picked up by David Tibet of Current 93 to be on the Durtro label after Tibet listened to this album. Antony's lyrics and vocals are some of the most soul-clenching and amazingly powerful sounds around today by far. His piano work is splendid. The Johnsons band consists of drums, harp, bass, two violins, cello, flute, two clarinets, sax, and "guitar effects." Fans of vocal performaers strong enough to slice through your heart and leave your lungs without air should definitely seek this out. The sound is almost reminiscent of old show tunes about broken hearts, but instead with an effeminate male singing. His lyrics tell of pain and can be percieved as melodramatic on the same level that Current 93 can be, but at the same time leave you listening to this disc repeatedly. "Cripple and the Starfish," from the split-single with Current 93 is only one of quite a few stand out tracks on this album. I have yet to see his performance live, but word is that listening to it from a CD is not a tenth of the power felt while experiencing it live.     “The Rosetta Stone (TRS) language disks basically contain two sets of files held in a large number of directories. These are the "language files" (eg ENG01.. to ENG08.. for English US level I & FRA09.. to FRA19.. for French level II) plus the "image files" (eg PCT01.. to PCT08.. for English US level I & PCT09.. to PCT19.. for French level II).
    Additionally there are three "id/config files" (CATMPC.TRS, CDID.TRS & CREDITS.TRS) that identify the disk and its contents for the TRS application.
