DJ Kicks - Kruder & Dorfmeister
    MP3 320 Kbps | 26 Aug 1996 | Label: Studio K7 | 166 Mb
Genre: Electronic | Styles: electronica, acid jazz, drum & bass, trip hop

Austrians Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister, whose smooth and sexy acid jazz has attracted almost as much attention as their curious resemblance to American folksters Simon and Garfunkel, demonstrate their skills on yet another instalment of Studio K7's DJ Kicks series. The mix highlights the best of European trip-hop, acid jazz, and drum and bass, with their own "High Noon" and "Black Baby" mixed with tracks from British trip-hoppers Herbalizer, German technicians Hardfloor, and Viennese weirdo Patrick Pulsinger, among others. Their straightforward mixing is complemented by a heavy dose of studio postproduction but the emphasis here is on track selection rather than technical trickery. Like their productions, this DJ Kicks is classy, sophisticated, and surprising.

It's an unusually long name for a band, but "Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band" is an unusual group. With their mixture of Lounge and Pop sounds, they've released a special album and the title… "A Special Album"!! As you listen to them they remind you of a Funky St Germain, but with a mixture of their own unique style - the result: a sound that will become the anthem for our South African summer.

Genre: Electronic | Styles: Synthpop, Electro-pop

Mesh’s sound evolves with pretty small steps. “We Collide” is very typical Mesh. Only slightly more (if that makes sense). Bigger melodies, more heartache, crisper electronics, heavier guitars. Possibly because of Gareth Jones, who joined the team for this session where he helped out with producing and mixing. Gareth sure knows his way around the studio, having worked with Depeche Mode, Erasure, Nitzer Ebb, Indochine, Moby, and many many more. A legend in his own right.

    Autechre - Draft 7.30

    Autechre - Draft 7.30 (2003)
    MP3 192 Kbps | 07 Apr 2003 | Label: Warp Records | 84,5 Mb
Genre: Electronic | Styles: Leftfield, Abstract, IDM, Experimental

After a decade as one of Britain's premier techno outfits, Autechre seem to be as determined as ever to show the mainstream no mercy. Instead, the Rochdale-based duo's music is actually growing more and more obscure, almost as if they want to alienate all but their most dedicated fans. Draft 7.30 is about as frustrating an album as you'll hear all year, a stark succession of monotonous beats that's painstakingly constructed but devoid of any emotion or, indeed, meaning. At times, in fact, the rhythms here are so repetitive that you have to check to make sure the CD isn't skipping. It's hard not to respect Autechre's refusal to compromise - but you can't help wishing they'd occasionally deign to decorate their experimentalism with just a hint of melody. Draft 7.30 is an album that's easy to admire. It's also hard to imagine anyone wanting to listen to it more than once.

Enduser - Form Without Function, (2006)
    MP3 avg 185 kbps | 20th June 2006 | Label: Hymen Records | 1:00:31 min | 76,6 Mb
Genre: Electronic | Styles: Dark Drum, Breakz, Dub

Within a few years, Lynn Standafer (aka Enduser ) has become a well recognized artist in the Industrial / Breakcore related scene. His output is staggering - not too long after "The End", he presents his' new full length release, featuring guest appearances by DJ Hidden, Speaker Wrath, Somatic Responses, Submerged and Silentkiller. "Form Without Function" might follow what started with "Comparing Paths" : A direction's turn from the raw sampling and breakbeat madness of his earlier works to a 21st century version of drum and bass with added breaks, ragga vocals and tight-fitting sample work. The basics of most tracks on this album are a continuation of what started with acts like Panacea in the 90s - straight-forward d&b with mighty, pounding basslines. Combined with the styles mentioned above, it's not only a mixture, it's a style on it's own - 100% Enduser. A truly fine example for a well-done work of art by one of the foremost challengers of break-based sounds.

Lacrimas Profundere - Filthy Notes for Frozen Hearts (2006)
    MP3 320 Kbps | 2006 | Label: Napalm Records | 47:21 min | 73,2 Mb
Genre: Metal | Styles: Gothic Doom Metal

Lacrimas Profundere’s gothic metal is aesthetically accomplished and manages to rise above cloying pretentions and obnoxious gothisms. The music is often reminiscent (vocally, at least) of Type O Negative, with a dark, ominous ambience, but also a sense of tenebrous beauty. The music is expansive and lush with large riffs and mid-tempo grooves. LP is a lovely voice in modern metal and brings an alternative voice to metal listeners who might be tired of the metalcore and thrash that dominate the culture these days.
