Woman Is The Future Of Man (2004)

Two longtime friends, Munho (Yoo Jitae), a college lecturer in art, and Hunjoon (Kim Taewoo), a struggling filmmaker, are bound by a mutual weakness for Sunhwa (Sung Hyunah); Hunjoon used to go out with her, and when he left for a trip to the United States Munho stepped in. Now, with Hunjoon back in South Korea and Munho safely married, they track her down once more. The director, Hong Sangsoo, shuffles the time scheme, leaving us gasping to keep up, and the performances, in their flat placidity, give little away. The film is doomed to infuriate, and its scrutiny of disconnected beings, filmed in long, hold-your-breath takes, might feel like old hat to anyone reared on Antonioni, yet Hong has a grace and stealth of his own, and his scenes tend to tilt in directions that few would dare to predict.
