As the only clean-living person at his agency, Sam Bissel (Jack Lemmon) is put in charge of its most important account, Nurdlinger's Dairy, headed by straight-laced Simon Nurdlinger (Edward G. Robinson). Sam and his wife Min (Dorothy Provine) celebrate the promotion with longtime friend Janet Lagerlof (Romy Schneider), who has good news of her own. She stands to inherit $15 million – but only if she is happily married. Since Janet has just seperated from her husband, she offers her good neighbor Sam $1 million if he will play the part. As complications multiply, Sam and Janet are forced to continue the charade, both to win her inheritance and to advance his career… Jack Lemmon is in peak form as a harried ad man in this scintillating comedy.

Der Werbetexter Sam Bissell (Jack Lemmon) ist ein Ausbund an Anständigkeit und Treue und führt mit Gattin Min (Dorothy Provine) ein harmonisches Eheleben bis die äußerst attraktive Nachbarin der Bissells, Janet (Romy Schneider), eines Tages vor einem pikanten Problem steht: Ein stattliches Erbe wartet auf sie aber sie kann es nur antreten, wenn sie glücklich verheiratet ist. Dummerweise hat sie sich aber gerade von ihrem Mann getrennt. Für Janet gibt es nur eine Lösung: Freundin Min muß ihren Gatten Sam ausleihen. Sam findet das jedoch weniger komisch… Für die damals 26jährige Romy Schneider war «Leih mir deinen Mann» der erste von fünf Filmen, die sie in Hollywood drehte. Geschickt paßt Romy Schneider sich den Ansprüchen einer Hollywood-Komödie an und brilliert als kapriziöse Frau mit fröhlichem Temperament. Jack Lemmon spielt, wie in Billy Wilders «Das Appartement» (1960), den kleinen Angestellten, dessen Welt durch turbulente Verwicklungen in Unordnung gerät.

Personal Remark:
Hard to get ('cause not on single DVD released so far) Hollywood Classic Comedy with a brilliant Jack Lemmon and a great Romy Schneider. If you've liked "The Apartment" this one could be something for you. Picture Quality is on usual standard for the age of this movie, sound quality (both tracks) is not perfect, but fair.
