Schon seit dem College sind der leidenschaftliche Junggeselle Ronny (Vince Vaughn) und der glucklich verheiratete Nick (Kevin James) beste Freunde, die gemeinsam die Firma B&V Engine Design betreiben und zusammen stets durch dick und dunn gehen. Gerade stehen sie kurz davor, ihr Traumprojekt an Land zu ziehen, und nicht zuletzt dank der Unterstutzung von Ronnys Freundin Beth (Jennifer Connelly) und Nicks Ehefrau Geneva (Winona Ryder) konnte es fur die beiden nicht besser laufen.
Doch Ronnys Welt wird vollkommen auf den Kopf gestellt, als er zufallig Geneva in den Armen eines anderen Mannes (Channing Tatum) sieht. Bevor er Nick die Augen uber den Zustand seiner Ehe offnen will, unternimmt Ronny aber zunachst ein paar private Nachforschungen, um der Sache auf den Grund zu gehen – und muss entdecken, dass auch Nick das eine oder andere Geheimnis hat. Wahrend die Zeit drangt, die Auftraggeberin ihres gemeinsamen Projektes (Queen Latifah) Druck macht und seine eigene Beziehung zusehends leidet, muss Ronny sich entscheiden, wann und wie er seinem besten Freund die Wahrheit sagt.
