A young officer returns to his base after a daring mission. The cook's assistant, a religious Holocaust survivor, is envious of him. He believes that there is a place in heaven reserved for the brave officer who endangers his life for the sake of his Jewish brethren. באופן מוזר ומפתיע ההלכה היהודית מאפשרת מכירה וקניה של מקום בגן עדן. אבל מה קורה כשסיטואציה כזו עוזבת את דפי החוק ומתרחשת במציאות? בראשית ימיה של מדינת ישראל, "במבי", קצין מהולל ועשוי ללא חת, חוזר מעוד פעולה נועזת. הוא כל כך רעב ויהיר, שהוא מסכים למכור את מקומו בגן עדן לעוזר הטבח הדתי, בתמורה לשקשוקה טובה. בחלוף 40 שנה, "במבי" שהפך לאדם בודד ומריר, שוכב על ערש דווי. בנו יחידו שחזר בתשובה והתרחק ממנו, נמצא במירוץ נגד השעון - הוא חייב למצוא את אותו עוזר טבח ולבטל את החוזה. רק כך יציל את אביו מהגיהינום.
