Win App | 5.5mb | RS.COM
When Chaos !ntellect opens up, you'll find a navigation-bar on the left to quickly switch between a Today page, Appointments, Tasks, Contacts, and our new screens, Mail and Memos.
Our newest addition to our product line has been a big hit since its release! Read on to see what the buzz is about or click here to read testimonials from actual users.
New interface with room for new features
Previous versions of our contact management software focused on a "one-screen do everything" interface. We love how well that works, BUT it also puts a big limitation on what the software can do. In order to incorporate many of the ideas for improvements and new features both requested and brainstormed, it became necessary to break out of our old mold and move to a new look for this new product.
When Chaos !ntellect opens up, you'll find a navigation-bar on the left to quickly switch between a Today page, Appointments, Tasks, Contacts, and our new screens, Mail and Memos.
Is this just an email program?
Integrated email is a big highlight for many users, but it is not the only reason to consider this new program. In fact, Chaos !ntellect offers many of the same features that Time & Chaos does, with a twist. (There is also a 'classic view' for users that don't like the 'twist' <grin>)
The Today screen offers a look ahead at the upcoming week, along with a current task list and mail summary. (A classic view is still available too, for those familiar with our Time & Chaos one-screen interface). The today screen also offers many different templates, so you can find a look that appeals to you.
With more room available, our Contacts list can show more information than past versions of our software. Below the phone numbers and email address fields, the custom fields can now be viewed without having to open the contact details.
The Appointments and Tasks areas sport new display options as well, including week view, work week view and month view.
New Memos database offers a place for the kind of information that Time & Chaos didn't. If something is a fact you don't want to forget, but is not specifically about one contact, nor date related, nor something you need to do, then Memos gives you a place to keep it and find it later!
Is this a replacement for Time & Chaos?
No! There will always be users that don't want email in their contact management software. We plan to keep T&C moving forward. In fact, we even added the appointment/task views and the memos databases offered in Chaos !ntellect to version 6.0.4.7 of Time & Chaos to keep it up with our additions to !ntellect. (They take a little detective work to find with the interface of T&C, but they are there!)
However, you may find that with all of the functionality in Chaos !ntellect, you may find it does replace T&C for you, personally. !ntellect works with all of the same databases and mirrors or extends the features from T&C.
Is this a 'real' email program?
We certainly view it that way and believe it can be a great replacement for Outlook Express or Outlook or whatever email client you use now. Chaos !ntellect works with both POP3 and IMAP mail servers and leverages your Contacts database to show which messages are from people you know and from people you don't. You can even do a mailmerge to create individual personalized messages for each recipient, like you have probably done with Word and paper letters in the past.
One more mail feature you'll want to know about: If you are besieged with incoming spam emails, Chaos !ntellect also has some powerful mail filtering options, including Bayesian Spam Filters that learn what you like and what you don't to quickly get the junk out of your inbox.
Will it use my current databases or mailboxes?
Chaos !ntellect is designed for compatibility with Time & Chaos and Express Plus, if you have used either or both of our other programs. If you have been using Time & Chaos 6, Chaos !ntellect should automatically start working with the same databases. If you used Express Plus for email, you may need to train this new program on where to find your mailbox folder.
In !ntellect, go to Tools, Options, Advanced Data Paths. At the bottom is a field for Mail Folder with a browse button on the right. If you browse for your mailbox, most users will find it in their My Documents folder in a directory called Express Plus Data.
If you are switching from another company's product, there are ways of importing both databases (contacts, appointments and tasks) and messages, so you can likely move all your collected info from your old software to Chaos !ntellect.
