Siemens FiberSIM 17.0.0 | 1.5 Gb
Siemens PLM Software has released Fibersim 17 (supported on NX, CATIA and Creo). This software used to design and manufacture composite structures and is suitable for the aerospace, automotive, marine, and wind energy industries.
Key capabilities introduced in this release include the following:
Forming for Designers
- Fibersim 17 has expanded its suite of manufacturability simulations to incorporate composite part forming. This intuitive tool allows composite designers to quickly assess the producibility of design concepts with a true physics-based simulation without ever leaving the CAD environment.
- This CAD integrated tool can be run directly on modeled tool surfaces in NX and CATIA without CAE expertise. With Fibersim 17’s new forming simulation, tool shapes’ viability can be quickly assessed for woven composite materials.
- This utility is not available on CREO.
Planar Cross Section Improvements
- Planar cross sections now incorporate schematic style, constant scaling, and translation along a vector, along with support for wrapped plies to provide a fully functional replacement for legacy 3D cross sections.
- Two new profiles – Shaded and Centerline – have also been added for Fibersim 17. Shaded planar cross sections in particular set the industry standard for unambiguous, robust, and visually pleasing composite cross sections.
Publish to Teamcenter
- Fibersim laminates, plies and cores can be published to the composite object model in Teamcenter 12.3 from NX and CATIA. With this interface, essential composite characteristics, such as weight, material, area, orientation and sequencing are available to the enterprise via the structure manager.
- Enabling the digital thread for plies allows downstream consumers direct access to details such as ply layup, laminate weights, material consumption and flat patterns without having to open up a CAD model.
- This utility is not available on CREO.
Explicit Layer Splicing
- Fibersim’s layer design workflows provide extensive automation for splicing large groups of plies with complex staggering rules. But splice group automation comes with geometric limitations that are not appropriate for all part types.
- With Fibersim 17, an explicit splicing methodology has been introduced that allows any layer shape to be spliced into any ply configuration that can be defined with CAD curves. This provides the extreme flexibility of defining any spliced ply shape with the benefit of maintaining the associativity to layer-based design intent.
FiberSIM is a suite of CAD-integrated software tools designed to reduce the costs associated with thedesign and manufacture of composite parts. Fibersim products work together with CAD systems to allowa single 3D model of a composite part to be used from conceptual design through fabrication. The open architecture of Fibersim provides a specialized engineering environment to create a composite digital twin in NX, CATIA, or CREO.
Fibersim also contains a suite of optional products, that enhance its capabilities, such as Flat PatternExport, Laser Projection and Fiber Placement Interface. These products work in conjunction withFibersim to ensure a seamless link from the 3D CAD model to the manufacturing floor.
This video provides a high level overview of automotive industry trends and how the “Car of the Future” will impact engineering design. This video also discusses the challenges faced by the automotive industry in incorporating mixed materials and new technologies and how specialized software solutions can address the unique challenges.
