Next Limit has announced RealFlow | Cinema 4D 2.0, the latest version of its fluid simulation software for Cinema 4D, adding support for granular, viscous and viscoelastic materials, and interacting fluids.

A cut-down version of RealFlow integrated directly into Cinema 4D

First released last year, RealFlow | Cinema 4D is a new edition of RealFlow integrated directly into C4D.
It features a cut-down version of the toolset from the standalone edition of the software, aimed more at motion graphics than heavy visual effects work, and costs less.

New in version 2.0: more material types, support for interacting fluids and property maps

To that, the new release add many of the key features introduced in versions 10.0 and 10.1 of the standalone edition, including the GPU-accelerated Dyverso multiphysics solver.

The update should make it possible to simulate a much greater range of materials, including granular solids, viscous and viscoelastic fluids (above), plus rigid and elastic bodies.

It also adds a few key older features from the standalone edition: notably, support for simulations in which two separate fluids interact – for example, simulation of oil and water.

Cinema 4D users will also now be able to use image maps representing properties like friction, stickiness and roughness to control the way scene objects interact with fluid particles.

New features unique to the Cinema 4D edition include the option to use C4D’s native falloff functions to control RealFlow daemons; and a “completely Alembic-based pipeline”.

As well as those discussed above, new features include the option to use masks with emitter nodes, to prevent fluid particles from being emitted inside surrounding objects.

It is also possible to use more than one scene in a document to test different versions of a sim; and to remesh cached fluids without resimulationg them to speed up the process of fine-tuning the mesh surface.

About Next Limit Technologies

Next Limit Technologies provides cutting-edge simulation technologies for a broad range of applications in computer graphics, science and engineering. Next Limits products include "RealFlow" (comprehensive toolkit for fluid and physical dynamics simulation for visual effects industries), "Maxwell Render" (physically correct light simulation and render engine), and “XFlow” (new computational fluid dynamics software for engineering applications). All products have been developed using proprietary technology, are available for multiple platforms, and connect seamlessly with most major applications in the DCC and CAD markets.
