IAR Systems, a future-proof supplier of software tools and services for embedded development, announces the availability of a major update of its development tools for STMicroelectronics STM8.

Release notes for IAR Embedded Workbench for STM8 version 3.11.1 - Released June 25, 2019:

    Improved Source Browser
The following improvements have been made to the Source Browser:
    - The source browser data is generated faster as it is now running as a separate thread.
    - New Source Browser Log window.
    - Status indicator in the status bar.
    - Enhanced feedback in case source browsing data cannot be generated.
Documentation Comments support in the editor
The editor can distinguish comments that start with /**, /*!, /// or //! as Documentation Comments. Inside a Documentation Comment, the editor can recognize keywords that begin with \ or @. If the keyword is recognized as a doxygen keyword, the Documentation Comment will appear in tooltips and parameter hints for variables and functions. See IAR Embedded Workbench IDE Project Management and Building Guide for more information.
    Newer version of C-STAT
The static analysis tool C-STAT has been updated with 20 additional rules, a number of bugfixes and better reporting function.
    Support new debugger
Support for STLINK-V3 has been added.

IAR Embedded Workbench for STM8 version 3.11.1

About IAR Embedded Workbench for STM8. Support for the STMicroelectronics STM8 family extends the support already available for the ARM Cortex-M3(TM) based STM32 range of microcontrollers. The consistent tool chain for STM8 and STM32 microcontrollers allows developers to use the same reliable and powerful tools for developing embedded software across both architectures.

A common user interface and a single naming convention of embedded specific language extensions make switching between the 8-bit target and the 32-bit target an easier, quicker and more reliable task, allowing developers to focus on application development instead of learning new tools.

IAR Embedded Workbench for STM8 is a comprehensive set of embedded development tools for applications employing the STM8 platform. It supports all STM8 devices in the STM8A, STM8L and STM8S families. IAR Embedded Workbench for STM8 includes a project manager, editor, build tools and debugger in a tightly integrated development environment. In a continuous workflow, you can create source files and projects, build applications and debug them in real-time on hardware or in the simulator.

Real-time on-chip debugging is available through the ST-LINK and STice debug probes available from STMicroelectronics. Powerful debug features including performance analysis through function profiling and code coverage utilities, and exact execution control using complex code and data breakpoints, saves project time.In addition to device specific support with configuration files for all STM8 devices, many readymade example projects are available in IAR Embedded Workbench for STM8. Development platforms from STMicroelectronics, such as the Discovery board and various evaluation boards, are well supported with examples to give developers a flying start.
