Heidelberg Prinect PDF Toolbox 17.00.023

Heidelberg has released Prinect PDF Toolbox version 17.00.023. The Prinect software suite for processing PDF documents for commercial and packaging printing includes a set of plug-ins for Adobe Acrobat. Each tool of the suite can be individually enabled.

The Heidelberg have a wealth of very specialist workflow software to accompany their multi-ton printing machines. But hidden amongst this – for somebody who has a knowledge of the print industry, but not a print press in the back room – was their Prinect PDF Toolbox. These are a collection of plugins for the loved/loathed Acrobat Professional that contains the following modules:

- PDF Assistant – a safer PDF workflow
- Color Editor – interactive color management
- Coating Editor – the finishing tool
- Trap Editor – the professional trapping tool
- Imposition Editor – the standard impositioning tool
- Screening Selector – the tool for object-related screening
- Barcode Editor – the tool for providing perfect barcodes

What's New in Version 2017:

This chapter gives you a brief overview of the new features implemented since the predecessor version 2016.

PDF Toolbox in General
- Acrobat versions 9, 10, 11 and DC/2015 are supported.
- New browser-oriented HTML5 Help.
- Multiple-page CFF2 files (cutting dies) display and can be assembled with Assemble Pages.
- The processing speed of PDF/VT files has been enhanced noticeably, especially for files with a large number of data records.
PDF Assistant PDF Report (Preflight)
- PDF Report: Check the number of data records for PDF/VT.
- "Colors" tab: Set tolerance compared to the trim box.
- Navigator tab
PDF Assistant Geometry Control
- Regroup: Combine pages with pagination
- Automatic definition of boxes by selecting colors. The defined spot colors of a page (without CMYK) are added to the end of the list box. This can be applied to the current page only.
PDF Compare
- Improved display (two columns) and navigation.
- Show/Hide single color separations.
- Compare within an art box.
- Compare single separations.
- Option: Automatic opening of a PDF from a Compare report directly in PDF Compare, without having to start the PDF separately.
PDF Assistant Assemble Pages
- Creation of color strips.
- Assembly of multiple pages to files with a few pages (Fiery versioning). For example, you can assemble a file with 100 pages to a single page. The single page is then automatically copied to 100 pages. The resulting PDF is a PDF/VT.
- Optional removal of white background graphics during assembly via a hotspot.
Barcode & VDP Editor
- Navigation using the keyboard arrow keys in the boxes for "Data Record" or "Page" has been implemented.
- PDF/VT files can be split into several parts. Issues can occur during output if there is a great number of data records.
- The longest replacement text displays in the message panel during a PDF/VT verification.
- Support of size reduction (scale) or clipping of excessively long texts. Texts that are too long despite scaling are clipped after clicking "Apply" and confirming an error message.
- User-defined or measured colors can now be used for texts and barcodes by means of the pipette tool (was possible to date only for background colors).
- The body color can be defined as "Knockout".
- Optional decimal separator (.,-) for counter marks.
- Code 39 supports and ignores the input of the "*" start and stop character. This is important especially for the replacement of dynamic barcodes where the replacement texts are given start and stop characters.
- Option of opening a generated PDF/VT immediately in Adobe Acrobat
PDF/VT Control
- Navigation using the keyboard arrow keys in the boxes for "Data Record" or "Page" has been implemented.
Screening Selector
- Pagewise selection by same color.
Coating Editor
- Selection of a new varnish color using color tables
- Varnishing transparencies with soft masks. Previously, images not knocked out were varnished with the entire box.
- Varnishing images without clip path. Up to now, a clipped image was varnished only if it had a clip path. Now areas that are to be varnished can be set through color selection.
Imposition Editor
- Support of layout clip paths in the Prinect Preview Layout. Previously, clip paths were ignored in the preview; only a warning was issued.
Color Editor Spot Colors / Multicolor
- Multi-channel spot colors are now converted to Multicolor through spectral color management. Up to now, multi-channel spot colors were converted using the alternative color space filed in the PDF (almost always CMYK).
- Optional Delta E optimization of the ink recipes and restriction to a maximum number of separations.
- Export of up to eight selected colors as a test chart for Prinect Color Toolbox.
- The "Reset" button recalculates the recipe for selected colors from the settings (ICC profile and Rendering Intent).
- If present and unknown in the PDF, the color type will be imported from the color tables.
Versioning Assistant
- Navigation buttons (First / Last / Previous / Next) in the Compare preview.
- New mode: One file with several versions. In this process, the first N master version pages (can be edited) are compared with the following M * N version pages. For example, a PDF/VT could also be examined to see whether the date records differ only through changing the K separation.
- New mode: One file (Separated) with several versions plus identical base pages for all pages. For example, this produces a file with 100 version pages and a single-page base. These can then be assembled to a PDF/VT (Fiery versioning).
- Compare tool: Page numbers also display in the message window below if you have a great number of different pages that cannot be fully displayed in the header.
- Message about features in the file (transparency, device-independent colors) in advance in "Details".
