Altair SimSolid 2020.2.0 build 89

Altair SimSolid 2020.2.0 build 89 | 553.8 mb

The Altair development team is pleased to announce the availability of Altair SimSolid 2020.2 is a project-based system, allowing you to have, within a single project, multiple sets of geometry, multiple study types (it supports linear and non-linear structural, modal, transient and thermal analyses.)

Highlights
Highlights of this release include the following:

• Fatigue Analysis using S-N (stress-life)
• Multi-loadcases workbench for running multiple linear structural analyses
• Teamcenter integration
• Export deformed shapes in a design study
• Volumetric expansion/shrinkage
• Enhanced response mesh
• Improved solver performance resulting in faster runtimes and reduced memory footprint

New Features
Fatigue Analysis using S-N (stress life) approach
You can now solve multiaxial fatigue analysis using S-N (stress-life) approach. This method helps predicts fatigue life when the stress level in the structure fall mostly in the elastic range. Time-series histories and sequential loadcases are supported. Time series histories can be imported via RSP, RPC, or CSV files.

Use mean-stress correction to account for the effect of non-zero mean stresses. For damage caused by tensile crack growth along a critical plane, use the Goodman and FKM models. Use the Findley model for shear crack growth.
Use a loadcase-channel map file to create several events automatically. This includes importing channels from the file directory and mapping load cases to channels automatically to create several events. Similarly, you can import several load case sequences from a CSV file.

Multi-loadcases Workbench
You can run multiple linear structural analyses with common constraints. Linear structural analysis assumes the model is loaded slowly (static) and stresses do not exceed the yield strength of any part material (linear).
Inertia relief, pressure, force, and remote load boundary conditions are supported. You can also import forces and remote loads from a CSV file to automatically create loadcases.

Altair SimSolid 2020.2.0 build 89

Teamcenter Integration
SimSolid now supports connection to existing Teamcenter instances. You can query for and retrieve CAD files directly into SimSolid. Teamcenter versions 10.0 to 12.1 are currently supported.

Export Deformed Shape
You can export deformed shapes for all parts in a given design study in ssg/stl format. Export of scaled deformation is also supported. Note that this feature is only available for results plots created in version 2020.2 or later. For older projects, right-click on a project to initialize the solution, then re-run the analysis so you can export the deformed shape.
Volumetric Expansion/Shrinkage
You can now apply volumetric expansion/shrinkage to seam welds or other parts in the assembly in a structural analysis. Volumetric expansion works similarly to thermal expansion on a body. A volumetric expansion of 100% yields similar result as a thermal load of 1 °C with a thermal expansion coefficient of 1/°C. With this option, you can also study volumetric shrinkage studies by applying a negative coefficient value.

Enhancements

Response Mesh
SimSolid now uses a new response mesh algorithm. On average this new method is faster, the number of facets is reduced, and the distribution of facets is more even. Overall analysis solution time is reduced, and results are displayed faster. This is especially beneficial to large models. The degree of improvement is model specific, but response mesh creation can be up to 16x faster and the number of facets can be reduced by 2 to 6x.
If the response mesh is too rough, a new Refining option is available for the Results plot. This works on all faces of a selected part. There are three levels of refinement available. This should be used sparingly as it will increase the response facet count. Note that this does not improve solution quality; it adds more visualization points. Solution quality is still controlled by the Adaption settings menu. You can reset to the initial result plot with the Reset option.

Equation Solver
The equation solver is further optimized, providing performance improvements of 2 to 5x. Note that equation solve is only a portion of the overall analysis, and is performed once with each solution pass. Modal analysis and non-linear analysis with larger equation sets are affected the most by this enhancement.
Reduced Memory Footprint
The peak working set and the commit size required to solve analysis is reduced by up to 2x. Models with large equation sets are affected the most by this enhancement.
Seam Welds
• Material assignment - You can assign materials to seam welds from the Connections Workbech toolbar. Use the > Apply material to seam welds option. If you do not assign materials, they are automatically assigned when you solve the analysis. Assignment is based on the materials of connected parts. If parts with multiple materials are connected to the weld, the stiffer material is assigned.
• Seam welds on curvature - You can create seam welds on curvatures with no feature lines. They are created from lines/solids. You can create lines in the Assembly Workbench toolbar or import them from an XML file.

New Units
Tonnes and N-mm are now supported as input/output units for mass and moment respectively.
Set Coordinates in COG
You can set coordinates to COG in remote load, remote mass, remote support, virtual bushings, and virtual joints.
Bolt/Nut Tightening
• You can now have up to 10 decimal places in the number of bolt/nut turns field. You can also paste the number of bolt/nut turns copied from the bolt/nut resultant forces dialog.
• When the resultant axial force of the bolt/nut deviates by over 10%, the following occurs:
◦ In the Project Tree, a warning icon appears next to the Results branch. Right-click on the Results and select Warnings to view.

◦ In the Bolt/Nut forces dialog, bolts/nuts with significant deviation are marked in red and deviation from the target is listed

Cylindrical Faces
The faces on a cylindrical surface are not merged along the axis.

Depreciated Features
Check rigid motion - This feature is removed from static analysis. You can analyze rigid motions by running a modal analysis.

Resolved Issues
• Fixed – crashes on machine with basic opengl support. On machines with basic opengl, following message is displayed:
◦ "This system has very basic version 1.1.0 of OpenGL graphics. Some graphics features of Altair SimSolid cannot not be supported by this version."
• Fixed – Issues with longer runtimes for subsequent analysis.
• Fixed – Issues copying analysis with thermal load or B.Cs applied in local coordinate system across design studies. Local coordinate system is copied to the new design study in such case.
• Fixed – Issues with rivet connections. The parts connected via rivets will be held together by the riveted joint.
• Fixed – Issues with creating welds from solids.
• Fixed – Issues with seam weld search by edges. Improved the search time for geometries with huge number of small holes.
• Fixed – Issues creating connections between parts that have been used to create welds.
• Fixed – Issues related to contact condition display in contact response dialogue while switching between load cases.
• Fixed – Issues related to improper assignment of contact conditions for parts converted to bolts.
• Fixed – Issues with editing remote load. The faces where remote loads are applied to are retained.
• Fixed – Issues with mapping loads using import remote loads functionality.
• Fixed – Issues related to liquid mass. Liquid masses are now carried over to subsequent design studies. Existing results are invalidated up on creating a new liquid body. Multiple liquid bodies are disabled on the same face.
• Fixed – Crashes related to very large assemblies with adapt to thin solids.
• Fixed – Crashes opening project file that contain virtual connectors.
• Fixed – Issues related to display of spot center coordinates.
• Fixed – Issues related to export of bookmarks for large models. The timeout for creating bookmarks has been increased.
• Fixed – Several other product crashes have been fixed.
• Fixed – Issues related to structural analysis results with inertia relief. This issue was specific to using remote load with higher levels of adaption.

Altair SimSolid 2020.2.0 build 89

Altair SimSolid is structural analysis software developed specifically for rapidly evolving design processes. It works directly on CAD geometry and eliminates geometry simplification and meshing, the two most time consuming and expertise extensive tasks done in traditional FEA. Moreover, SimSolid can analyze complex parts and large assemblies not practical with traditional FEA and do it efficiently on a desktop class computer. Both fast and accurate, SIMSOLID controls solution accuracy using a unique multi-pass adaptive analysis.
