The String Quartet Tribute to the Pixies is a rockin’ trip into the musical mind of the Pixies, a landscape that is both dark and day-glo. Violins take the lead, adding color and warmth to searing Pixie guitar lines, while viola and cello turn the thrashing intensity of their two-minute pop songs into classical jams. The range and brilliance of the Pixies’ song writing comes through loud and louder, as virtuous string players cut to the edgy essence of “Bone Machine”, and revel in the pop euphoria of “Here Comes Your Man.” Pixie-music set to strings – creative, unique and seriously cool.

The post-punk, pre-grunge Pixies didn’t just break new musical ground; they hammered it into, well, pixie dust. With their clanging guitars, ragged, boy-girl vocals, and the sly, demented lyrics of songwriter/guitarist Black Francis, the Pixies formed the innovative backbone of ‘80s and ‘90’s alternative rock. Their sound is raw, unrehearsed and alive with tension. And they know how to write a hit – a Pixies tune, once heard, shouts “Play me again!”
